Surviving Workplace Bullying During the Pandemic

The pandemic is still here since March 2020. It will be here for awhile after many people are vaccinated in the future as we still don’t know how effective it will be in the long run.

Meanwhile, many essential workers from first responders to healthcare/medical care and grocery workers are still busting their butts to provide quality care and or service to millions of people around the world. Their dedication and commitment to persevere during these difficult challenges are deeply appreciated and honored by those they serve.

Unfortunately, some have encountered stressful working conditions from not having enough PPEs (Personal Protective Equipment) to working overtime to being verbally bullied by their employers or fellow workers. As a result, some have died from contacting COVID and/or died from it. Very sad..

While these conditions continue during these unprecedent times, here are some tips that may help you fee less stressed:

  1. Take deep breaths if you move room to room to help people in need for those in healthcare and for first responders. It is understandable that taking breaks to decompress may not be possible for you to do due to the demanding conditions. For those in demanding food/retail environments, bending down to stretch and breath while getting the cleaning supplies to wipe down the conveyor belts will shift the energies around in your bodies as well for the healthcare workers and first responders.
  2. If you are able to get a bathroom break, be mindful by taking deep breaths as you walk there during this precious time. Be grateful for this opportunity to be in the present moment.
  3. If you are able to take a food break, do the above step and slow down eating your food mindfully as you swallow it down. Breath after you swallow and relax. Be in the present moment. Take a short walk either inside or outside if you a few minutes to spare. The goal is shift your energies around in your body to be renewed again for work.
  4. When you get into your car to go home, be present, and take deep breaths. Feel your hands on the steering hands, feel your butt down on the seat, and listen to the sounds outside or if you playing music. Feel the air on your body while you are driving home.
  5. When you arrive, take deep breaths. Change into relaxing clothes, and engage in self-care activities to decompress. Talk to a friend or significant other. Play with your children or kiss them good night when they go to sleep.
  6. Write or journal your story to reflect on what went well or not during your intensive work schedule. What did you learn about yourself and others working in these difficult circumstances. If you encountered workplace bullying, document what happened and the result.
  7. If you leave your job due to being bullied at work, I attached my podcast below to learn what I did to get up again after falling face down in the arena. Learn that getting professional help isn’t shameful but courageous thing to do.
